This week our speaker is Stan Cohen.  Stan is a well known Medicare advocate working with the Maine Agency on Aging.  He regularly publishes a column in the Bridgton News and works with local organizations such as the Bridgton Community Hospital to help people eligible for Medicare to take full advantage of Medicare and Medicaid (Maine Care).  He will be speaking on the changes to Medicare as a result of the new Health Care Provisions signed into law.  His host is Ed Boon.

Next week our speaker is from Ring Farm in Bridgton; the topic is "Heroes on Horses."  Our speaker's host is Holly Dvorak.

The next fundraiser is the Fryeburg Fair, which runs from Sunday, 10/3 through Sunday, 10/10.  We have our schedule complete - please check with Mike Daley if you have any questions about your shift and responsibilities.  His e-mail is mikedaley@myfairpoint.net and his phone is 647-2074.

We have received an application for a new member, Rosie Weiser.  Her application was approved by the Board at last week's meeting.  We plan to hold her induction this Thursday, September 2nd.  Rosie lives in Bridgton and was the former owner of the Greenwood Manor Inn.  She has been an active member of the Chamber of Commerce and is anxious to be involved in the community.  Her sponser is Cathy Fitzgerald.

District 7780 has recently signed up with ClubRunner to manage our District database and website communications.  ClubRunner is the leading software provider for Rotary clubs and districts worldwide.  There will be an on-line training session that you can take from the comfort of your own PC on either Tuesday, August 31 at 4 p.m. or Thursday, September 2 at 4 p.m.  This training is for Club Presidents, Secretaries and District officers. This will be very helpful as we migrate from our current provider to ClubRunner for the Bridgton-Lake Region website in the very near future. Please see the email Mody sent last week for a link to register.

Our Club is moving to a new website; the link is  http://www.clubrunner.ca/Portal/Home.aspx?accountid=6958.  It's still being designed, but you can sign in, and start working on your profile, and committee.

Upcoming District Events:

Thursday, September 30; 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. - Membership/Public Image Seminar, registration paid for by our Club.  This will be held at the Portland Holiday Inn West.  DG Ann Lee is encouraging all of us to increase membership by making our clubs better and bolder.  This is a great opportunity to share ideas with other clubs.

Thursday, October 14 - District Foundation Retreat with guest presenter RI Director John Smarge, at Migis Lodge on Sebago Lake.  (This is one of the few events right in our own backyard!)  Rotarians will have an opportunity to join in "Fireside Chats" with John Smarge and other Foundation experts during the afternoon, followed by a cocktail reception and a 6 p.m. dinner.
